Penn State’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) has been at the forefront of developing, advancing, qualifying, and transitioning Cold Spray technology for repair and part fabrication to U.S. defense sponsors for more than a decade. This innovative technology enables rapid, cost-effective repairs and fabrication of critical components, ensuring operational readiness for military assets.
Recently, Dr. Tim Eden (top left) and the ARL team supported the Navy’s Southwest Regional Maintenance Center in executing cold spray repair of two rudder stock bearing journals for the USS Essex (LHD-2). This time-saving repair highlights the practical impact of cold spray technology in addressing urgent maintenance needs. (See the story at this link.)

Dr. Eden, widely recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in cold spray technology, is now sharing his expertise globally. This week he is in Australia delivering a two-day, hands-on invited course on cold spray technology. The training focuses on the principles, equipment, and techniques essential for effective cold spray applications, providing practical knowledge to technicians and engineers responsible for in-field repair operations.
