Penn State Connects Global Manufacturing Community to Accelerate Advanced Manufacturing Technologies

Penn State hosted the 54th North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC 54) and ASME Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC 2026), bringing a record 1,050 researchers, industry leaders, national laboratory representatives, and government participants to State College. Led by CIMP-3D Co-Director Dr. Guha Manogharan, the five-day event highlighted advances in additive manufacturing, smart manufacturing, robotics and automation, cyber-physical systems, advanced materials, and advanced manufacturing processes.

The record-setting event emphasized the importance of collaboration among universities, industry, national laboratories, and government organizations to move advanced manufacturing technologies from fundamental research toward practical implementation. Technical sessions, expert panels, and facility tours showcased approaches for improving manufacturing capability, reliability, scalability, and workforce readiness.  More information can be found at https://www.psu.edu/news/engineering/story/penn-state-hosts-manufacturing-research-conference-record-attendance.

Through CIMP-3D, organizations can access Penn State’s expertise across a wide range of advanced manufacturing technologies: additive manufacturing process development, design, and application; materials development and characterization; process monitoring, nondestructive inspection, qualification; and more. CIMP-3D’s faculty and engineers span Penn State’s Applied Research Laboratory, the Colleges of Engineering and Earth and Mineral Science, and Interdisciplinary Institutes.  Our mission is to help industry and government partners discover, develop, and deploy advanced manufacturing solutions for critical applications.
